Paper presentation at HIPER Conference

2-6-2026

Our research on aerodynamic modeling of WASP Ships, carried out together with CFD experts Bailardi Boutique Engineering and with the support of bound4blue, was presented at the HIPER conference (High-Performance Marine Vehicles) in Erfurt, Germany.

The paper — "Towards a Multi-Fidelity Ship-Sails Aerodynamic Interaction Model for Wind-Assisted Ship Propulsion" — compares high-fidelity CFD simulations with the so-called effective wind model across three wind-assisted propulsion devices: a Flettner rotor, a Suction Wing, and a Wingsail.

Results show that model accuracy varies across device types due to the pressure-field coupling, and that a combined multi-fidelity approach will offer the best balance between accuracy and computational efficiency.
